These are broad based Construction courses consisting of 4 units (Certificate) and 8 units (Diploma). These courses are designed for students who wish to gain a Certificate/Diploma in Construction and progress into employment or further training opportunities including Apprenticeship courses. They have been designed to provide students with specialist studies directly relevant to construction, building services and related sectors such as:
Carpentry;
Bricklaying;
Heating and Ventilation;
Painting and Decorating;
Plastering; and
Plumbing.
In addition to studying Basic/Key Skills the subject options available include:
Mandatory Units:
Developing Skills and Working Safely in Construction;
Starting Work in Construction; and
Working in Construction.
Optional Pathway Units:
Basic Building Maintenance;
Developing Building Services Skills(Plumbing/Heating and Ventilation and Electrical Installation).
Construction Pathway:
Basic Building Maintenance;
Developing Joinery Skills (Carpentry); and
Developing Trowel Skills (Bricklaying/Plastering).
PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion, students could progress onto the Level 1/2 Brickwork or Carpentry Diploma, NVQ2 Apprenticeship or Certificate in Heating Level 2.
