Course Description
You will require a passion for Floristry and you will gain Floristry skills that will enhance your career prospects within the Floristry industry. It is taught by practical demonstrations, tasks and assignments. You will be given the opportunity to gain work experience in The Hub floristry shop, and the opportunity to achieve your NVQ2 qualification in Customer Care.

Course Structure
Mandatory units:
  • Unit 1 Identification and processing of cut flower material and pot plants
  • Unit 2 Introduction to Art and Design for Florists
  • Unit 3 Introduction to plant processes and planted designs
  • Unit 4 Hand tied and Presentation Designs
  • Unit 5 Funeral and Sympathy Designs
  • Unit 6 Floral arrangements
  • Unit 7 Wedding designs and Accessories
  • Unit 8 Display of Floristry goods
  • Unit 9 Introduction to working in the Floristry industry
  • Unit10 Process, Cost and Evaluate designs


Optional Units
  • Unit11 Introduction to Function Decorating
  • Unit12 Introduction to Balloon Artistry


You will also study Key Skills which include Maths and English.

Course Assessment
The assessment for this course is by ongoing practical assessments/assignments and a multi-choice test paper at the end of your qualification.

  • Level 1 Certificate in Floristry
  • All applicants must complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and attend an interview
  • You must have an interest in the Floristry industry.
  • You must commit to 100% attendance.


Course Costs
There are no course fees if you are under 19 years old on 31 August 2010. However, you may have to pay for textbooks, personal kits, uniforms, trips and personal stationery. You will be informed of these at your interview.

Course Enrichment
Activities such as trips to the Society of Floristry Show and Holland will be arranged, which are beneficial to this course and your learning. These activities are optional and additional fees will be charged to you. Details will be provided at the time of interview.

Course Progression
You may progress onto the City and Guilds Level 3 Advanced National Certificate or NVQ 3 in Floristry.

Course Career Prospects

  • This qualification will provide opportunities in careers as a Trainee/Junior florist working in a florist shop, garden centre or large retail outlet with fresh flowers and pot plants.
