The Diploma in Society, Helath and Development will give you a detailed understanding of the Children and Young People's Services, Health, Community Justice or Social Care Sectors. The Advanced Diploma is equivalent to 3.5 A Levels, the Progression Diploma is equivalent to 2 A Levels.

About this course
You will need at least 5 grade A-Cs at GCSE to include Maths and English and an interest in care and working with the general public. You will have to pass an enhanced CRB check to take part in the work placement. The College will subsidise this, but you may be asked to make a contribution towards the cost.

What will I study?
The really exciting thing about the Diploma in Society, Health and Development is that it gives you the opportunity to apply your learning to real work situations. The course will include lots of visits and guest speakers as well as the work placement, and you will gain an insight into professional practice.
The Diploma is made up of a number of different elements. You will study 6 units of Principal Learning:
- Safeguarding and protecting individuals and society
- Principles and values
- Partnership working
- Communication and information sharing
- Sectors in context
- Personal and professional develoment in the workplace
You will also produce an extended project based on a relevant topic of your choice.
Alongside the Principal Learning you will develop your own personal, learning and thinkings skills, and Functional Skills in maths, English and IT. You will be able to choose an AS course, as part of your studies. We will work with you to help you choose the right option for you.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through practical projects and assignments throughout the course.
What can I do next? The Diploma is worth the equivalent of 3.5 A Levels and is accepted by a wide range of Universities for courses leading to work in the health industry, children's services, youth work and adult social care. Please note that some Universities may specify a particular A Level which they want you to take alongside your Principal Learning.
