This course is for International Students - both EU or non-EU - to help you live, work and study in the UK. You need to demonstrate a commitment to a potential 4 years of study, one for this course and then 2-3 years for your HND, Foundation Degree or Degree course. You must convince us that you are prepared to work hard and be ready for university.

Course content:
For International (non- EU) students who do not have an English language background and who want to progress on to a UK Degree, Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma course, but who need extra qualifications to meet admissions requirements. The course is based on the college's ACCESS to higher education programme, but it also has specific English and Study Skills. You will develop your knowledge in your chosen subject area, improve your English and get an introduction to living and studying in the UK.
This course includes Humanities and Social Science modules and English language skills for International students aiming to go on to study their chosen specialism at a university or higher education college in the UK. It covers:
- English Language - preparation for IELTS
- General language - grammar and vocabulary, and essential skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking
- Academic language skills: intensive reading, note taking from texts and lectures, summary and reformulation, academic essay and report writing, academic presentation, discussion skills, asking questions
- Study Skills - Teaching and Learning in the UK
- British Life and Institutions
- English Literature
- Linguistics
- Historical Studies
- Psychology
- Sociology
Course Structure:
You will join local students for the subject area units of your course and be with other UFP / English language students for the other units. Teaching methods will include a lectures, discussions, group work and private study.
A full time course will normally have 18 hours of classes per week, plus a regular tutorial meeting. You will also need to do at least 10 hours per week homework, preparation and individual study.
Course resources:
All students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre. This included free internet access.
Assessment:
ACCESS ((LOCN Certificate) for Humanities & Social Sciences - continuous assessment (essays, exams, assignments and presentations).
For the British Council IELTS - external tests, plus continuous assignments and presentations.
Next step:
Progress to degree at Kingston or Roehampton University or at any UK university
