The department boasts very good resources that include a dedicated studio space, a computer suite that includes industry standard software, scanners, colour and black and white printers.
What will I study?
This course offers the opportunity to research themes within graphic design, improving your visual language, analytical and research skills. You will experiment with traditional studio techniques, illustration, photography and cut and paste layout and mix with computer- aided design work using industry standard software such as Photoshop and Illustrator. Please note that everything originates from drawing. All projects will start in the studio using traditional studio techniques. You will experiment with materials and media work with type and lettering. You will discover unique ways of communicating your design ideas. There is an expectation that you will come to the course with good research skills and an active interest in the subject. Areas covered on the course:

What will I achieve?

How is the course assessed?
In the AS level, two units are studied and assessed in an end of year exhibition. You will be assessed every six weeks. A further three units make up the A2 year. Again work is assessed in an end of year exhibition.
What else will I do?
A variety of trips are arranged, for example trips to London, Liverpool, and Manchester. There are also visits to many university end of year degree exhibitions, Castlefield Art Gallery, The Cube Gallery, The Cornerhouse, Manchester City Gallery, the Whitworth Art Gallery and trips abroad to New York or Europe.
