How it is Taught
Students will have the opportunity to work independently and as part of a group in class based learning activities. In addition, students will speak to practitioners and service users from a range of health, social care and early years organisations. Students who enjoy meeting new people and gaining information first hand will find this course interesting.

Work experience will be arranged during the course to enable students to complete coursework and to assist with career planning

Students will develop and use skills of planning, research, report writing, self reflection and evaluation.

Examination Details
The units marked with an asterisk will be assessed externally by examination. All other units will be assessed internally through coursework.

Useful/Common Subject Combinations
For progression into some careers, students are advised to combine Health and Social Care with other specific subjects.

For a career in teaching, Students taking the AS/A2 Single or Double Award should also be studying a National Curriculum subject at advanced level e.g. English or History. Students must also have at least Grade C in GCSE Maths, English and Science.

For a career in nursing students should also consider taking AS/A2 Science, Psychology or Sociology with Health and Social Care.

For Physiotherapy, students are advised to take a combination of AS/A2 of Biology plus Science or Sports Studies with Health and Social Care. Physiotherapy is very popular and there is competition for places on courses with high grades required at A Level.

For Social Work, Sociology, Psychology or English combine well with Health and Social Care. Experience of working with different client groups and voluntary work is essential.

Careers and HE Information
The course gives a vocational and academic grounding in all aspects of Health & Social Care. Students have the opportunity to consider a range of options within each vocational pathway - health, social care and early years care and education.
