Why should I come to Pendleton College?
Pendleton College offers a two year practical course which provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to develop a career in the catering industry. Students learn from experienced tutors in the College's Training Kitchen, restaurant, dining and banqueting facilities (please visit the Facilities section of our website). With external visits and a work placement element, the student will not spend all of their time in the college environment.

What will I study?
Students on this course will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of practical skills as preparation for employment as a chef or in food and drink service. The course includes the preparation and cooking of fish, meat, sauces and desserts.

What will I achieve?
Students successfully completing this course will receive City & Guilds qualifications that are internationally recognised. Successful students will also achieve the Basic Hygiene Certificate and the Basic Health & Safety Certificate. The qualification can lead to careers in Hospitality and Catering, either as a Chef or Food Service Personnel before progressing to management.
/>
How is the course assessed?
There are no final exams on this course. Students have the opportunity to have their practical skills assessed throughout the year.

What else will I do?
Students will have a work placement during the course that gives both a valuable insight into the world of work as well as providing an opportunity to develop a wider range of culinary and food service skills. In the past year students did work placements at the Lowry, Midland Hotel, Radisson Edwardian, Hilton Hotel and the world famous Rick Stein seafood restaurant in Padstow. You will also have the opportunity to participate in regional and national competitions. In 2008, two of our students were awarded second place in the national Young's Seafood Competition.
