The Portfolio ILM Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching aims to equip senior leaders (or those working in specialist HR/ L&D or OD roles) with the knowledge, skills and confidence to perform effectively as executive coaches/ mentors and - subject to successful completion of assignments – achieve a nationally-recognised Level 7 (Masters level) qualification worth 15 credits under QCF.

Three 2-day mandatory workshop modules:
1. Strategic Context for Coaching
2. Developing Connection
3. The Coaching Journey
Group tele-tutorials
Individual tele-tutorials/ coaching supervision
Optional Study day (tutorial assignment support)
Between workshops you’re expected to apply the skills by
undertaking practical coaching sessions and completing
approximately 1-2 hours of pre-work for the next module.

About this course

By the end of this programme participants will be able to:
Recognise and establish the organisational context, strategy and processes for effective coaching or mentoring at a senior or
strategic level;
Critically review the conditions to support and integrate
executive coaching and mentoring, and evaluate the
contribution of coaching/ mentoring to individual and
organisational performance;
Critically review their own abilities to perform effectively as a coach or mentor at a senior/ strategic level;
Understand how the client’s personal characteristics and
organisational context affects the coaching or mentoring
relationship and demonstrate an ability to adapt to diversity and difference;
Accurately establish client needs and contract effectively in the context of the individual and organisation;
Use reflective learning to inform own development needs, and have experienced quality coaching supervision;
Prepare for coaching assignments and present a credible
professional coach profile;
Effectively plan, deliver and review at least 20 hours of coaching and/ or mentoring at a senior/ strategic level.

Typically, this programme delivers tangible benefits for:
Senior managers or leaders of leaders who are regularly
coaching/ mentoring at a senior level;
Senior HR/ OD/ L&D professionals who regularly coach at a
senior level and/ or are seeking to introduce coaching at a senior/ strategic level within the organisation;
Coaches who wish to validate and enhance their skills via a
professional executive coaching qualification.

Whilst there are no formal entry requirements, participation in this programme is via application to ensure that participants can fully meet the ILM criteria relating to leadership and coaching experience.

This ILM Certificate is awarded following the completion of mandatory modules and the submission/ assessment of required assessed
activities including:
A strategic report on the business rationale for introducing coaching or mentoring in an organisation and a critical review of methods to evaluate coaching and mentoring;
Completion of at least 20 hours of coaching at executive/ senior leader level, maintaining reflective notes and records;
Reflective statement and self-assessment.

Lead Tutor, Jane Harders, is a practicing coach and experienced ILM tutor; she spends approximately 50% of her time actively coaching at senior and executive levels, and the remainder of her time developing coaching and leadership practices across a range of organisations and sectors. She works with teams across the UK and Europe and Jane's experience as a coach gives her a recognisable and practical "edge" as a tutor on coaching programmes.
