Course programme

The course is designed to equip you with the basic skills necessary for you to continue developing the craft of leatherwork. It will be a hands-on approach with advice and guidance throughout, and we'll be using a variety of teaching methods including demonstration, instructions, one-to-one tutorial guidance, group discussions and critiques. You will be guided through the techniques used so that you can make simple items, such as a small leather pouch that you will be able to take away.

You will learn:

  • about different types of leathers and what uses they can be put to
  • about the basic hand tools used in leatherwork and what jobs they are used for
  • to hand stitch and machine sew leather
  • to personalize or pattern leather by stamping
  • simple techniques used in leatherwork
  • to mould leather
  • to colour leather
