On this course you will study the following topics:Week 1: Introduction to meditation & basic meditational techniquesTheory• What is meditation? Basic definition; exercise for the mind• Benefits/aims of meditation: relief of stress, anxiety, depression. In Buddhism relief of hatred (as one of the 3 poisons)• Secular and religious meditation• States of consciousness• Types of meditation: concentration (anapana and mindfulness), generative meditation (metta), receptive meditation (koans), transcendental (mantras) and visualisationPractice• Anapana: meditating on the breath• Mindfulness: meditating on a leaf• One to try later: walking meditationWeek 2: Generative, receptive and transcendental meditationTheory• More on generative and receptive meditation: metta, the use of koans and mantrasPractice• Metta meditation• Mantra meditation• Koan meditation for homeWeek 3: VisualisationTheory• Visualisation as a technique to change mind set and inner healing• Visualisation in New Religious MovementsPractice• Creative visualisation• Colour visualisation• Nature visualisation

A range of visits to the Academy’s partner businesses, to gain an insight into how they are shaping the professional services sector
