Suitable for: This course is suitable for all ages and backgrounds looking for a full time course, a keen interest in animal health and welfare is required. The entry requirements are 4 GCSE's at grade E or above or a Level 1 Diploma in Land based Studies, other alternatives can be taken in to account such as extensive work experience in the land based industries.

Course review:

The Level 2 Diploma gives you the knowledge to obtain employment within the Animal Care industry or progression on to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management.

You will work with a range of animals at our specialist animal facility in Bradford. These include small mammals, birds, poultry, reptiles, invertebrates and fish. you will learn about the care, feeding, accommodation, behaviour, handling and grooming of all the species that we house.

The level 2 Diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSE's and is a 1 year full time course, the subjects that are taught on the level 2 diploma are:

  • Maintain animal health and welfare
  • Undertake practical animal feeding
  • Maintain animal accommodation
  • Undertake work related experience in the land-based industries
  • Understand the basic principles of animal biology
  • Introduction to the principles and practices of animal behaviour and handling
  • Introduction to animal breeds and grooming

Each one of these modules is assessed by practical and written assessments, that are graded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction. You will compile a portfolio of work for the final grading.

We also provide additional courses alongside the main qualification, these currently included:

  • Level 1 in Employability
  • Level 2 Practical Animal care skills
  • Level 1 in Alcohol awareness
  • Work Skills and Functional Skills

The entry requirements for these vary and this will be discussed at the interview.
