What are the Course Details?
This course is intended for learners who have already studied a Level 1 Diploma, or a Level 1 qualification in Decorative Occupations, and wish to become qualified Painters & Decorators.

Is the Course for Me?
Are you looking for a career with a future? Do you want to play a part in decorating tomorrow's new constructions as well as restoring the original décor to historic and renovated buildings? If the answer is yes then you could find yourself involved with painting and decorating new homes, sheltered accommodation, offices, hotels, schools, leisure complexes, shopping centres, and much more.
The construction industry can be an exciting but demanding industry in which to work. The workforce must be prepared to travel, adapt quickly, and follow essential health and safety procedures. You must also be able to work at heights.

What are the Entry Requirements?
Foundation Construction Award in Decorative Occupations or equivalent, or a minimum one years on-site experience plus 2 Grade D GCSE's in Maths and English (or equivalent).

What will I Learn?
As part of this course learners will study the following units:

How will I Learn?
Learners will begin with training activities in the College's practical workshop, which will then lead to them undertaking assessments once occupational standards have been met. Throughout the course there will be planned theory sessions which will cover the knowledge necessary to find employment as a painter and decorator, these sessions will be delivered in a variety of different learning styles to suit all learners requirements.


How will I be Assessed?
Learners will achieve their qualification by showing competence in 18 units of study. Each unit contains a theory assessment and several practical tasks. To achieve the full qualification you will successfully complete a practical end test. All work will be continuously assessed by tutors and verified independently. Learners will be provided with a recording sheet to enable them to monitor their progress. To achieve the full qualification you will successfully complete a practical phase test, on line exam and a Health & Safety CSCS test.

What Enrichments are Available?
Learners will have access to a wide range of enrichment activities within the College to develop and broaden their experience of College life. Activities range from paintballing days and sports teams to Air Cabin Crew and trips to Meadowhall. In previous years learners have also taken the opportunity to participate in painting and decorating competitions.

Are there any Trips or Visits?
In previous years learners have attended the annual Skill Build competition and the Painting and Decorating Association Dinner and presentation evening.
Trips have also been organised to trade exhibitions and guest speakers from industry have been invited into the College to share their knowledge and experiences.

Is there any Work Experience?
Many learners who have attended College on construction craft courses have been recommended for placement with companies and then moved into permanent employment. When this happens it may be possible to gather work based evidence and enhance the Level 2 Diploma with an NVQ 2 to achieve a full apprenticeship.

What can I Progress to?
Successful achievement of the Level 2 Diploma can lead to a Level 3 Diploma or an Advanced Apprenticeship.

Other Learner's Experiences;
Many past learners have gone on to study higher level courses or have found employment with local employers as Painters and Decorators.
