About this course

You will need to have achieved the Level 2 Diploma in Decorative Occupations and also learners will require minimum D Grades in GCSE English & Mathematics, equivalent to Key Skills Communication & Application of Number Level 1 or Adult Literacy & Numeracy Level 1.You will up-skill in Literacy and Numeracy to a Level 2 Functional Skill or equivalent.

What are the Course Details?
Learners on this course will gain advanced skills and knowledge in painting and decorating. Learners will also undertake studies in co-ordination and supervision within the training environment.


Is the Course for Me?
This course is aimed at those learners who are looking to organise and run contracts, perfect their skills in painting and decorating and gain the skills required for promotion.
If you have a desire to help decorate tomorrow's new constructions as well as restoring the original décor to historic and renovated buildings this could be the course for you.

This course will see you operating at an advanced level and will give you excellent opportunities to develop your supervisory skills, co-ordination, and organisational skills, all of which will aid you when running contracts and undertaking Foreman responsibilities.

The construction industry can be an exciting but demanding industry to work in. The workforce must be prepared to travel, adapt quickly, and follow essential safety procedures as well as working at heights.

How will I Learn?
Learners will begin with training activities in a practical workshop, which will lead to assessment when occupational standards have been met. There will be planned theory sessions which will cover the job knowledge necessary to become a qualified painter and decorator, these sessions will be delivered in a variety of different learning styles to suit all learners requirements.


How will I be Assessed?
Each unit contains a theory assessment and practical assessment. To achieve the full qualification you will successfully complete a practical phase test, and an on line exam.


What Enrichments are Available?
Learners will have access to a wide range of enrichment activities within the College to develop and broaden their experience of College life. Activities range from paintballing days and sports teams to Air Cabin Crew and trips to Meadowhall. In previous years learners have also taken the opportunity to participate in painting and decorating competitions.


Are there any Trips or Visits?
In previous years learners have attended the annual Skill Build competition and the Painting and Decorating Association Dinner and presentation evening.

Trips have also been organised to trade exhibitions and guest speakers from industry have been invited into the College to share their knowledge and experiences with learners.


Is there any Work Experience?
Many learners who have attended college on construction craft courses have been recommended for placement with companies and have then moved into permanent employment. When this happens it may be possible to gather work based evidence and convert the Level 3 Diploma into an NVQ 3.


What can I Progress to?
Learners who successfully complete this course can progress onto the National Certificate or Diploma in Built Environment.


Other Learner's Experiences;
Many past learners have gone on to study higher level courses or have found employment with local employers as Painters and Decorators.
