Media Studies AS and A2
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The aims of this course are: To enable students to develop a critical understanding of the mass media and their audiences. To give students practical skills in using technology to create professional standard media products.

AS CONTENT
In the AS, you are introduced to analysing media texts TV shows, magazines, advertisements, films and webpages. You will learn about: the techniques used in the media, the messages and values the media communicate the relationship between media businesses and their audiences

AS ASSESSMENT
PRACTICAL COURSEWORK:
(Print production) worth 50%
EXAMINATIONS:
A single examination worth 50%

A2 CONTENT YEAR TWO

A2 ASSESSMENT
COURSEWORK
(Short video film + research project) worth 25%
EXAMINATIONS:
A single examination worth 25%
Although there is a practical component on this course, approximately 70% of assessment is through essay-length written work in exams and coursework.

HOW WILL I STUDY?
You will learn in a variety of ways, including:
Class discussion & note taking
Small group tasks
Writing essays
Watching & analysing video
Use of computer software & internet resources
Creative work writing scripts, articles etc
Design work photography & desktop publishing

We have excellent facilities in the Media/Film department: professional standard cameras and industry level production software. Our specialist classrooms in the new building have been purpose-designed for Media and Film.

Our teachers are well-qualified Media specialists with real experience of working in the Media. Team members regularly examine for the WJEC and have written Media/Film textbooks for major academic publishers.
