There is such a special quality to oil based printmaking inks when used in monoprinting. The monoprint describes a ‘one off’ print, rather than a multiple. However this ‘one off’ image may contain many layers of colour, and the inks produce rich visual effects as they layer and blend.

About this course
- make images directly on a plastic plate
- use additive and reductive techniques to make an image
- print a monoprint by hand
- print from a plastic plate using an etching press
- safely use the equipment in the printroom.

Course programme
We will look at additive and reductive mono-printing techniques, using brushes and rollers and explore the use of oil based inks in printing.
Demonstrations and personal application of different aspects of the media will be offered. The course fee covers some basic materials such as inks, acids and white spirit. Please bring sketches, photographs or other source material to work from. You may wish to sign up to one of the Autumn monotype courses or explore other printmaking processes on a general studio course. Your tutor will advise you.
