Course programme

This programme is for candidates who cover broad range of the skills required to carry out a number of roles in the hospitality and catering industry. This could include residential homes, industrial caterers, restaurants and branded operations. It is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed on the NVQ Level 2 in Multi-skilled Hospitality Services and to prepare you for progression on to an appropriate level 3 course or for employment in a related area.

Entry Requirements:

There are no formal entry requirements but a good grasp of spoken and written English is beneficial.

What will be studied:

Students will study the following compulsory units:

  • Health and safety
  • Customer service

Plus seven optional units from the areas below:

  • Front office
  • Housekeeping
  • Food and drink service
  • Food preparation and cooking
  • Generic

How is the course assessed?

During the course of your NVQ, as you work through the elements, you will be asked for evidence to support your competency. All this evidence will be collected and put in a file which we call your portfolio.

Your assessor will work alongside you offering you continued support, advice and guidance throughout the program. After that the pace and pattern you establish with your assessor will be negotiated to suit you and your employer.

The qualification does involve end unit tests and a portfolio of evidence will be built up by the candidate throughout the programme. The portfolio is periodically assessed throughout the learning.

Progression

On successful completion of the NVQ Level 2 in Multi-skilled Hospitality Services you can progress on to the Advanced Diplomas in Hospitality or an NVQ Level 3 in Professional Cookery.
