Course programme
Learn all the skills necessary to produce record and engineer your own EP and produce and engineer a live, large-scale music event. From exploring compositions and creating film soundtracks to working with musicians and music industry professionals- this course gives you an access-all-areas pass to the mechanics of studio recording, production and live engineering.
- Studio Licence Project: You’ll develop skills and confidence in using studio hardware through recording professional musicians and completing the studio licence project. You’ll also develop keyboard and software sequencing techniques, providing you with a solid foundation to build on throughout the rest of the course.
- Creating a Soundtrack: You’ll build on your knowledge of digital audio while creating a soundtrack for a computer game or film. In doing so, you’ll develop skills in synthesis, sampling and sound design techniques. You’ll collaborate with TV & Film and/or Games students during this term.
- Session Recordings: You’ll develop your studio skills further by recording musicians in the re-creation of a commercial track. You’ll also develop your understanding of the music industry through examining organisations, roles and contracts and find out how to be successful in this constantly-evolving industry. This will involve collaboration with Music Performance & Songwriting students.
- Composition and Production Skills: During this term you’ll develop a critical ear while exploring composition and production skills. You’ll work in teams to produce and record your own compositions in the recording studios. These compositional ideas will form the basis for your EP in the following term. There’ll also be opportunities to create music in collaboration with TV & Film students.
- Produce an EP: You’ll use skills you’ve developed over the previous four terms to record, engineer and produce an EP. You’ll create a marketing campaign and produce merchandise in preparation for the release and for the live event, held during the final term. You’ll also collaborate with Confetti’s in-house commercial record label Denizen Recordings as well as TV & Film students.
- Producing a Music Event: During the final term you’ll produce and engineer a professional-standard music event in a large Nottingham venue, drawing on the skills you have developed throughout the course. You’ll promote the event through marketing materials created in the previous term and will engineer and produce a live radio show.
