Why study the New Diploma in Society, Health & Development?
This course provides a stimulating and diverse programme of applied learning within occupational contexts across the Children and Young People's Workforce, Health, Community Justice and Social Care sectors. It introduces young people to the principles, practices and influences of these broad and varied sectors, including the impact on the lives of individuals and communities.
What do I study?
The New Diploma consists of specific principal learning, additional or specialised learning (including an extended project), functional skills, personal, learning and thinking skills and context experience.
The core units include: Principal Learning Themes:

- Communication and information sharing
- Personal and professional development in the work environment
- Safeguarding and protecting individuals and society
In Additional and Specialist Learning, you will be able to:
- Choose specialist pathways relating to the range of health, social care, community justice and children's profession
- Choose additional subjects or units from existing provision, eg to pursue something of personal interest from accredited qualifications or take an A-level Assessment is through coursework and exams.
Work Placement:There will be twenty days for work placement in at least two sectors. This will support you in making an informed choice about career progression.
