Course programme

Objectives Professional Photographers using tried and tested techniques that produced good commercial results using film often find output from recently acquired digital SLR cameras to be disappointing requiring many hours of Photoshop work to generate a saleable outcome. This course is designed to equip you with the skills required to attain results with minimum post-production. Equally suited to users of all Nikon Professional cameras including D1 and D2 Series and D100/D200 cameras, it provides a fast-track approach to the understanding of key digital settings and functions and presents them in a context suited to a wide range of photographic activities. With a broad cross-section of likely participants, this course presents an opportunity for working professionals to consider their current practices within a highly positive and friendly learning environment. Please note this course is not suitable for amateurs or photographic enthusiasts. Content Initially concentrating on the generic default settings shared by all Nikon Professional DSLR's, this course quickly moves on to ensure that the key controls for Tone Compensation, Sharpening and Image Quality modes are understood and a workable strategy for your specific application is established. The importance of attaining correct exposure and accurate colour are dealt with through practical projects using a range of Metering and White Balance settings, pausing to look briefly at the choice of Colour Modes and their Colour Space implications. Aspects of Workflow such as efficient transfer and copying, selection and browsing and batch processing of files for output are covered. This course introduces the benefits of IPTC captioning and EXIF Metadata for archiving and storage whilst dealing with best practice image processing techniques using Adobe Photoshop and Nikon Capture NX.
