Who is the programme for? This programme is intended for employees who are presently working in the catering and hospitality industry. This is likely to be those who are working in a small business such as a guest house, caf, or have a multi task role in the institution where they are employed. The award is intended to accredited students with skills that are being used in the workplace. The qualification focuses on the practical skills and necessary underpinning knowledge to achieve a recognised qualification. The programme is flexible and will be tailored to the needs of individuals and their places of work. Students will however need to demonstrate that they can complete the necessary units that are required to achieve the qualification prior to enrolling.

What will I study? This qualification assumes that the individual will be undertaking a variety of tasks during their working day. For example, a proprietor of a guest house would multi task in that they may prepare and cook food for their guests, they would likely undertake housekeeping duties, they would undertake front office duties i.e. Service public areas front of house etc. Therefore they would be able to demonstrate competence across a number of components of the award. Students will be expected to keep a Portfolio of evidence that records practical competence against the performance criteria and also provides the underpinning knowledge required to achieve the award. Whilst the intention is to accredit prior skills and knowledge you will be assigned a personal tutor who will support you and provide additional knowledge and training to ensure you are successful in gaining your award. The programme is modular in structure and includes units on a wide range of work activities. Listed below are the pathways that are available and although the core units are mandatory the programme offers a very flexible path and students will be given optional units from which to choose. The pathways are:- * Front office * Housekeeping * Food and drink service * Quick Service * Food preparation and cooking

Entry to the Programme?

How is it assessed? Candidates need to practically demonstrate their competence over a period of time. Candidates will need to demonstrate the ability to complete a range of practical tasks and successfully complete the short test underpinning knowledge questions that are required by the awarding body to achieve the award.

Future prospects? Successful students are encouraged to continue their studies onto the NVQ Level 3 qualification in Hospitality supervision.

When will the programme start? Students may start this programme at anytime throughout the year and it is expected that you will complete the full programme within 36 weeks or over one academic year. However previous students have demonstrated that they can achieve similar past awards earlier than planned based on their commitment and careful planning.
How long will it take?

What about the Money? Please note that fee remission applies to anyone on a means tested benefit, job seekers allowance, a programme designated as Skills for Life (SfL) or where someone is studying their first full Level 2 or first full Level 3 (aged 19 25). If you are under 19 on the 31 August 2009 you would not normally pay tuition or registration fees. If a programme is Full Cost then no fee remission is applicable.
