The course is aimed at people currently working in industry, particularly mechanical engineers wanting to learn about the basic principles, application and safety of electrical systems.

Course Content

Basic Electrical Safety & Precautions: Induction and Generation: Generators: Test Equipment & Procedures: AC Systems: Electrical Instrumentation: Basic fault finding: Principles of electric motors: 3 Phase supply: Power Factor & Correction: Lighting & Lighting circuits.

On completion the learner will be able to recognise how to work safely in an electrical environment, use a typical multi-meter, understand the operation of motors and their safety devices, apply the concepts to find basic faults and understand the star delta configurations of a three phase system.

Method of Assessment

The course tutor will arrange an assessment at the end of the course. A College Certificate of Achievement will be issued to successful candidates.

Progression

On successful completion of this course students can progress onto the Electrical - Stage 2 programme.
