This course is suitable for students of all ages. Candidates should have some experience of delivering fitness sessions or have a suitable level 1 sports or fitness qualification.

Course content:
This part time course will help train you as a gym instructor. The course covers the workings of bones and joints, muscles and muscle actions, cardiovascular and respiratory components of fitness, and principles of training.
You will learn to plan and teach safe and effective exercise sessions, the principles of training, how to adapt exercise to suit varied fitness levels, how to use a range of teaching skills, the body's systems and its response to exercise, health and safety factors, and how to motivate and support clients
Course Structure:
Two evenings a week for 15 weeks

All students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre. This included free internet access. Specialist resources include a full sized sports hall, weight training facilities and aerobic studio.
Assessment:
Practical assessment, portfolio assessment and multiple choice test paper.

Further qualifications in sport/exercise such as the CYQ Advanced Fitness Instructing (GYM).

The fee where stated is an 'INCLUSIVE FEE' for UK/EU students. This fee includes the tuition fee, examination fee and exam board registration fee. You may have to pay extra for materials for the course. If you are under 19 years or you are in receipt of an income related benefit the course and exam fee is FREE. Students aged 60+ years pay 70% of this fee. Students aged 19+ will also have to pay a College Registration Fee of £30 (or £20 if you receive benefit) once per academic year.Materials costs:
Sports clothing, text books & folders (approx. £30), plus photocopying
