About this course

You do not require any specific entry qualifications, but must be working within a School for at least ten hours per week. All applicants will be interviewed and undertake an initial assessment in English and Mathematics. Students should have a good standard of education. You will need a satisfactory reference and will require an up-to-date enhanced CRB check.

Is the course for me?
If you are currently employed as a teaching assistant, or looking to work within a school, then this NVQ Level 2 qualification is ideal for you. The Level 2 NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools could be used by volunteer workers within the school, provided they cover a sufficient breadth of responsibilities for supporting teaching and learning. The NVQ combines both theory and practical work-based activities and provides a basis for further study or career progression. This qualification is offered through e-portfolio learning. Access to a computer is required and IT training is available to develop your skills.

What will I learn?
You will cover the following areas on the course: * Help to keep children safe * Provide support for learning activities * Support children's development * Contribute to positive relationships * Provide effective support for your colleagues. You will also select 2 optional units of your choice.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by direct observation in the work place, reflective practice and also by the completion of assignments.

What can I do after the course?
You can progress onto a Supporting Teaching and Learning at level 3 qualification providing you are employed, or gain employment within the sector.
