Who is the course for?
This course is aimed at anybody who wishes to develop a solid foundation in performing arts. It is for people who wish to pursue a career in drama or dance but have not yet achieved entry requirements for higher level programmes.
What is the course about?
You will study some of the following: Performance (Dancing or Acting), Rehearsing for Performances, Performing Arts Business, Drama/Acting Basic theory. The course is of a very practical nature and will give you the opportunity to participate in the preparation and presentation of a number of public performances.
Will I need anything else?
You will be required to purchase play scripts, pay for theatre tickets for any shows you wish to see and comfortable clothing for rehearsals.
How long & often do I attend?
This course is offered as a one year substantial programme and requires attendance of several lectures, practical sessions and workshops per week; additional time will also need to be spent by the students in carrying out project work and to complete research. You will be required to attend for a minimum of 90%. Students will be required to be flexible around performance dates and times.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is continuous. You will be marked on both practical and written project work, which will provide the evidence on which your grades will be based. There is no formal exam at the end of the course.
What opportunities will this lead to?
On completion of this qualification you may progress onto a BTEC National Diploma course in your chosen area of performing arts. You will be advised and assisted in their choice of progression by their course tutors.
