About this course

You will need at least four GCSEs grade C or above. You do not need any photographic experience, but enthusiasm and dedication are essential.

About the Course
This course will develop your visual communication skills where emphasis is placed on the meaning, uses and functions of photographic images. Throughout the course, you will explore the following:
1 Process
The types of photographic shot, viewpoint, angle and composition. Camera operation and technique.
2 Developing and Printing
Film types, speeds, grain etc. Paper types, surface qualities, tone, contrast etc.
3 The Manipulation of Image
Lasers, lighting, distortion, superimposition and solarisation. Images can also be manipulated through computer packages such as Adobe Photoshop.
4 Critical and Historical Studies of Photographic Development
Investigating photographers and photographic movements. There will be a charge for materials and equipment of approximately £80 in the first year and approximately £50 in the second year. You will have the opportunity to visit museums and galleries. There is also an annual European study visit.
AS Level Photography students are encouraged to take Adobe Photoshop as an enhancement course.

During the AS year you are required to undertake: Coursework - 60%, Externally set assignment - 40%. During the A2 year you are required to undertake: Coursework - 60%,
Externally set assignment - 40%.
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
What next?
Photography is a popular subject to study at Degree or Higher National Diploma levels. The A level course is a good starting point for higher education as well as being a relevant addition to other A level courses such as Product Design, Media Studies, Art and Graphic Art. It also the ideal opportunity for you to build up a comprehensive portfolio of work.
