Have you ever been into a shop or supermarket and wandered around ainlessly looking for what you need? Ever had a query that hasn't been dealt with effectively? Maybe it's time for you to qualify in the retail sector and show people how it's done! Sales Assistants are the people who should be there to help and put smiles on customers' faces. They keep the premises clean and tidy, fill shelves, promote sales and initiatives, handle cash and cards and generally make customers feel at ease. As an apprentice you will achieve valuable occupational competence within a retail role. You will be employed and your job role may include a range of retail tasks in a shop based environment. The majority of your training/learning will take place within your work environment. On completion of the Apprenticeship you will gain a suite of vocational qualifications which form part of the Apprenticeship framework - an excellent start to your career.

Course programme

On successful completion, you may progress to;

  • an Advanced Apprenticeship in Retail
  • employment as a Sales Assistant or Stock Room Assistant
  • Senior Sales Assistant or Team Supervisor (following further training and development)
  • specialist roles such as warehousing or cash office administration.

As an apprentice you will gain valuable experience and occupational competence within your workplace setting. You will be employed and, under supervision, your job would be either:

  • A Sales or Stockroom Assistant - your Apprenticeship will involved helping customers to choose products, dealing with customer queries and processing payments in a range of retail environments, helping to provide a positive and seamless service and to advise and support customers in the use of web-based fcilities available to them in-store.
  • A Stockroom Assistant - this Apprenticeship will involve handling stock and deliveries, receiving, storing and picking stock for the sales floor.

You will need to achieve a minimum of 48 credits from completing mandatory units and a selection of optional units. The optional units will be decided in negotiation with your assessor and employer and are based on your job role within your organisation.

You will also need to complete a functional skills level 1 in maths and English, Employment Responsibilities and Rights and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
