Description of the Course
The course is a single unit required by those wishing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector. It provides an introduction to teaching and is the first level of qualification leading towards licensed practitioner status.
Course content
The course provides an introduction to 5 key areas

· Roles, responsibilities and boundaries in teaching
· Approaches to teaching and learning
· Planning for teaching
· Inclusion and motivation of learners
· Methods of assessment

Assessment
Students will be assessed by completing a theory and a practical assignment, both of which are divided into a number of tasks undertaken throughout the course. The practical assignment will include planning and conducting a teaching session. Students will be able to complete at either Level 3 or Level 4.

There are no formal qualifications required for this course. However, due to the structure of the course and the assessment requirements, entrants will be expected to have identified a subject area to teach and be able to produce written assignments of up to 500 words (normally word processed).
What can I do after this course?
The natural progression will be to the completion of the Certificate in Education DTLLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector) at Levels 4/5 or the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education at Level 6.
