WHY TAKE A COACHING, FITNESS OR LEADERSHIP QUALIFICATION?
These qualifications have been organised to further develop the levels of experience and skills in a variety of different areas. The aim is to enhance employability and University entry. Qualifications available include; CYQ Level 1: Introductory Certificate in Exercise and Fitness Instructing, CYQ Level 2: Certificate in Fitness Instructing - Gym, Community Sports Leaders Award (CSLA), Volunteer and Leadership Programme, First4Sport ACS Level 2 Award in Coaching Studies and National Governing Bodies (NGB) Coaching and Officiating Sports Awards.
WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
The CYQ courses are mainly practically based with some theory. Areas include fitness instruction, health and safety, assessing and reviewing. The ACS and CSLA are based around coaching in a wide range of situations with individuals with different abilities. It is assessed through theory and practical work. The volunteer and leadership programme gives you the chance to lead, inspire and motivate other young people, whilst gaining new skills, qualifications and experiences in a variety of different environments.
WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
A range of new skills will be developed to help students reach their full potential, both academically and practically. Opportunities will arise whereby students will be working both independently, as part of a team, as a coach and as a referee/official in both education and the community. Through these experiences students will develop knowledge and understanding of all levels of coaching, fitness and leadership.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
This depends on the chosen courses, although they all have an element of assessment through both theory and practical work. Assessment will also be through the individual demonstrating commitment, reliability and enthusiasm.
