Step Up to Work Catering (Progression to Employability)

Course Overview
This course is learner centred, offering the learner's pathways to employment.

Learners will have the opportunity to be involved in a mini enterprise. Providing a catering service across College and in the community.

Course Structure
Each course will consist of:

• ICT/functional skills
• Personal development/tutorial
• Work related studies
• Subject related teaching
• 1 days work placement
• Travel training
• Residential related to the work being carried out on the course
  

Catering topics will include

• Cooking in the Kitchen (own meals)
• Health and safety
• Cooking for sale (mini enterprise)
• Budgeting
• Shopping for food (cash and carry)
• Work experience/placement
• Visits to catering establishments
• Health and hygiene (possible achievement of recognised certificate)

Qualification Aims
The learners work towards achieving a qualification through individual targets at Entry 2 or 3.

Assessments/Examinations
Continuous assessments and review throughout the course, following the requirements of the accreditation.

Cost / Equipment
Tuition is free to learners who are under 25 years at the start of the course. Learners who are in receipt of income support are requested to provide this evidence. There will be costs for accreditation/certification.

Equipment Required

Aprons, hats and as course requires.

Requirement
Learners need to demonstrate the desire, willingness and commitment to learn the skills required to lead an independent and purposeful life with aims to move into employment. Willingness and interest to learn to travel independently. Satisfactory report from previous College course or school. Demands of the Course· Learners will be expected to wear suitable protective clothing/uniform, have good personal hygiene and follow Health and Safety rules· Learners will be made aware of and expected to follow course and College rules· Learners are expected to commit themselves to the course and work placement· Willingness to learn to travel independently
