Indian cuisine is one of the most popular of foods in the UK. This stimulating four week, evening cookery course will help develop your knowledge of this vibrant, varied cuisine.

You will develop culinary flair and will complete the course with a range of Indian recipes following experimentation with a variety of spices and local produce after preparing and cooking a selection of mouth-watering Indian dishes.

Colours Cookery School runs a whole host of cookery courses and participants are welcome to join other courses.

There are no formal entry requirements, as with all of our leisure cookery courses, the main emphasis is to come along and enjoy. The course is suitable for all levels of ability

Course programme

What will I study?

This cookery course will allow you to explore various ingredients, develop some basic skills in Indian cuisine and encourage you to develop your own creative culinary ideas, whilst using blended spices and quality ingredients.

  • The course will provide you with new skills in culinary techniques and present you with a range of recipes for both Main courses and Starters. Some of these dishes may include:
  • Lamb Biryani
  • Vegetable Daal
  • Koottu
  • Homemade Naan Bread

The selection of ingredients used to produce these dishes will vary from those used daily to specialist products, including a wide range of spices, meat, fish, vegetables, sauces, fruit, nuts and pulses.

Participants will explore the tools and skills required for the selection of ingredients, the methods required in the preparation of food, the cooking and finishing of ingredients to form a range of Indian dishes.

Course participants will be able to develop their awareness of Health and Safety relating to the preparation of food, food safety awareness, practical knife skills and stove control, whilst learning logical and coherent methods for producing interesting, unique Indian cuisine.
