This is a course for students of all levels to develop and improve their watercolour skills through successive days of guided painting practice and encouragement to experiment with the medium. Creative and personal approaches will be encouraged, aiming for students to identify areas of personal focus, to explore more fully.

About this course

Confidently experiment with a number of watercolour techniques
Better develop techniques to suit a personal sensibility
Identify watercolour processes which works best for you
Identify watercolour techniques when viewing the work of a range of watercolour artists.

Paints will be provided but you may prefer to bring your own. Specialist watercolour paper must either be purchased from the tutor or an art material shop. A range of brushes, including a 1 – 3 inch wide flat wash brush and a medium sized round brush will be helpful. The tutor will give advice about paper and brushes in the first session.

You will spend most of the studio time painting but there will also be individual and group demonstrations throughout the course. Outside of class, you will be asked to research watercolour artists that you like and bring examples to share with the rest of the class.

You can go on to enrol on a further watercolour course such as Painting Plants and Flowers, or onto a painting course such as Painting 1 or one of the Life Class or Portrait courses.
