Yoga Bandhas Revealed: Are they what you think?
Most yoga students have a crude, unsubtle or even incorrect understanding and use of bandhas (usually translated as energetic locks or seals). Explanations of moola bandha (the root lock) in particular can tend to be vague and mysterious when given within the restraints of a normal class. Through a balance of practice and theory, this workshop will be an opportunity to clarify and explore in finer detail the correct use and application of moola, uddiyana (abdominal/upward flying), jalandhara (throat), maha (great) as well as the lesser known pada (foot) and hasta (hand) bandhas.
Bandhas, if done poorly, can create tension, restriction of breath and a dispersion of pranic energy – sometimes in uncontrolled directions causing physical and mental ailments. A subtler more refined appreciation of what they are and when and how to apply them correctly will add a lightness and depth to your practice and ultimately redirect pranic energy for the purpose of spiritual transformation. Open to all levels except complete beginners.
