Course programme

Yoga and Pilates for Runners: From Mat to Marathon

Whether you are preparing for the London marathon, racing shorter distances or simply putting in plenty of miles for fun, don’t miss this 5-workshop series for runners. Although designed to supplement and complement a typical marathon training programme, non-racers and casual joggers will benefit, too. Discover how yoga can help your running flourish and get you to the finish line – or even just out the front door – in one healthy, happy piece. Take one workshop or all five.

Yoga and the Running Schedule – A Realistic Approach

Whether you’re training for a marathon or just trying to run regularly through the British winter, it takes discipline to stay the course on a path full of pitfalls – from lack of time or loss of motivation, to overtraining, burnout or injury. Happily, most successful running plans build gradually and offer variety in pace and intensity. Increasingly, many suggest cross training or ‘active rest’ options, which is where yoga and Pilates fit in.

This workshop will explore the various energetic qualities and styles of yoga, suggesting specifically what and when to practise in order to balance Yang with Yin, intensity with recovery. You’ll learn “taster” versions of 3 very different sequences (to be explored in more depth at future workshops) and we’ll discuss where to realistically place them in a typical running schedule, to both supplement and complement your training.

Future Workshops:
January 17th – Strong and Centred: A Yoga-Pilates Foundation for Runners
February 21st – On Your Feet: Dynamic Standing Poses for Runners
March 14th – Yoga for Aching Athletes: Relax, Repair and Restore
April 18th – Yoga Philosophy and Sports Psychology: Preparation, Relaxation, Visualisation
