PRESENTATION

The Yoga Biomedical Trust, internationally recognised within the field of yoga therapy, is collaborating with Yogacampus to offer a Yoga Therapy Techniques Course. This course is designed to give existing yoga teachers skills to work therapeutically with students in general classes and to work one on one with students with minor health issues. (It is not a complete training as a yoga therapist, working with students with more major health issues). You will however receive a certificate of attendance on successful completion of the course.

During the course you will study:

-Yogic perspectives on the development and treatment of disease;
-The basic mechanics of breathing and a review of incorrect / correct breathing patterns.
-pranayama techniques that can be used safely with most students.
-An intuitive approach to body reading; how to look at a person “as a whole”, observing personality and body types.
-The yogic systems for understanding energy, its movement, blockages and its direction for healing purposes.
-Practices of mantra, hasta mudra, chakras, pranavidya and asana integration for healing and to promote an understanding of the koshas.
-Meditation and relaxation techniques, including restorative postures and their use in therapeutic work.
-The general use of language when dealing with students with ailments, use of visualisation techniques and the practice of yoga nidra.
-Dealing with minor ailments in general classes.
-How to modify asanas: over a number of modules you will review the categories of asanas (e.g. standing postures, forward bends etc) and learn modification techniques that will make postures accessible to most students.
-The main contra-indications that make some types of posture unsuitable for students with particular ailments, as well as the types of posture which may be beneficial for certain types of ailments.
-Principles of taking case histories and record keeping.
-Practical applications of the techniques you have learned through a number of case studies.
