The other day I read these words: “A third of high school students do not eat vegetables each day and more than a fourth do not always have a daily serving of fruit”.
My memory from high school is that we had to eat fruit and vegatables each day and at home was no exception. So who carries the responsibility? The schools, parents or both?
The guidelines for adolescents are for females to eat 1,5 cups of fruit and 2,5 cups of vegetables daily and for males it’s 2 cups of fruit and 3 cups of vegetables. This is if the individual does not exersice a lot. Teens who get more physical activity need to eat even more greens.
These are numbers coming in from the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention  putting a focus on the need for healthier school lunches in America.
Fruits and vegetables are important parts of our daily diet and can reduce chronic diseases like heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and some cancers.
They are packed with essencial vitamins, fiber and diseasefighting phytochemicals.

Needless to say it’s important to create good habits from young age so what can we do to improve the lack of fruit consumption with young people?

How is the situation in your school? Do people bring fruit to classes? Are the school lunches healthy enough in your opinion?
