To qualify for entry onto this course, you should have achievement at GCSE at Grades D-G or equivalent, be at Entry Level 2 or above in English and Maths. You will also be invited to an interview to assess your interest, aptitude and suitability to the course.

Course Content: Throughout this course you will gain an introduction to bakery ingredients and processes to establish a firm foundation in basic skills and understanding. You will cover baking methods and techniques of making bread, pastries, cakes and other savoury products. You will develop skills and experience, vital within this industry through selling the produce through the College Bakery shop, open to all students, staff and the public. You will learn both theoretically and practically about selecting ingredients, weighing, mixing and baking foods. Assessment will be heavily based on practical coursework as well as the completion of a portfolio with theory work accounting for approximately 20% of the overall grade.
Special Features: Throughout this course you may be involved in work experience through which you will gain valuable skills and experience.
Course Format: Bakery whites will be required to be purchased, to a specific standard and style (guidance given)
Progression: Once you have successfully completed this course you will have gained 140 points at Level 1 (equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grade D to G). You will then be able to progress to Level 2.
