Who is this course for?
The Bridge Course is for young people with moderate learning difficulties.
What are the entry requirements?
You will be need attend an interview and assessment and be motivated to achieve a basic qualification. The course requires you to show an understanding of simple questions and communicate experiences, choices and basic personal details. You will study in a group and take turns participating in activities. The College environment requires you to follow simple requests and instructions and show a practical awareness of basic safety issues.
After applying you will have an interview to determine which course is suitable for your needs and abilities.
- Minimum Literacy Level: Entry 2
- Minimum Numeracy Level: Entry 2
You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.
What qualification will I receive?
The qualification you will receive is Edexcel in skills for working life, a foundation learning tier or a qualification from the English Speaking Board.
Where can it lead?
There is a possibility that you could progress onto the Foundation programme or sheltered work projects.
What will I study?
You will study a wide range of vocational and creative subjects and take a basic skills qualification.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught using a variety of methods such as group project work, individual or pair work, group discussion. You will also study number skills and communication skills. The use of the interactive whiteboard for group/individual teaching and learning. You will also have access to the student room and attend Brent Advocacy meetings.
How will I be assessed?
You will be continuously assessed throughout the year to support and monitor your progress. This may include observations, questions and assessment of portfolio work.
What support is available while I am on the course?
You will have tutorial sessions throughout the year to support and monitor your progress. All classes have a learning support assistants to support you during lessons.
