The Customer and Drinks Service unit is part of the Professional Barperson's Qualification - a national qualification for persons working in on-licensed premises in England and Wales.
What does the qualification cover?
On successful completion of this qualification, candidates will be able to demonstrate an understanding of:
- Preparing the bar for service
- Service procedures
- Clearing, cleaning and closing
- Maintaining customer care
- Maintaining working relationships
- Selling skills
- Payment and security

As a result of obtaining this unit, barstaff will be able to identify the basic service standards they must meet when working in on-licensed premises. A certificate stating the candidate has achieved this qualification, is awarded by BIIAB upon.
How long is the training course?
The course is usually held over one day, including the examination. A self-study workbook is available which contains all the information candidates need for the examination. The workbooks may also be used to support training.
What does the assessment involve?
The assessment involves a short multiple-choice question examination. The examination consists of 30 questions, and candidates must answer 24 questions correctly to pass.
