Course programme
Covering a whole range of practical skills, the course focuses on creating healthy, organic and vegetarian food, and selling this to staff and students at the College¿s Centre for LifeL ong Learning.
As well as developing skills in preparing and cooking food, food hygiene and menu planning, you will gain an understanding of how to run a café, including dealing with customers and taking payment. You will also have opportunities for work experience by catering for events inside and outside the College.
In addition, you will develop skills that you can use in all areas of your life, including team-working, effective communication, and meeting and relating to people.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course, but you need to be keen to work in catering and able to commit to a two-year course.
Assessment is by module coursework, practical project work, written assignments and communication skills developed through presentations.
On successful completion of this course, you will achieve the Edexcel Diploma in Skills for Independence and Work, and the Edexcel Award in Introduction to the Hospitality Industry. You will also achieve internal qualifications that recognise other skills that you develop.
Following the course, you may progress into work or further training in Catering.
