About this course

Candidates should have at least 2 standard grades at General level or Intermediate 1/2 in English, Mathematics, Home Economics and /or ScienceSVQ 1 in Food Preparation and Cooking Mature students applications are also welcome, particularly who do not have formal qualifications and who wish to change career direction. The key criteria for all of the above applicants is that they should demonstrate a passion for food and desire to satisfy customer needs.

Course programme

This course is for those who want to develop a career in the Hospitality and Catering Industry. As well as focusing on Professional Cookery you will be working in our Terrace Restaurant serving our discerning customers.


The course will take one academic year.

You will cover a number of units which will include Introduction to the Catering and Hospitality Industry, cookery units which will include preparation and cooking of a variety of foods, cold preparation and study of healthy foods. A food service unit and a menu project will also be included. You will achieve these units through a number of practical and theory lessons delivered in our fully equipped professional kitchens. The course will involve a significant number of practical exams and with theory tests on each of the units delivered. A number of core skills will also be included IT, numeracy, problem solving and communication. Working as a strong team member will play significant part of the programme when working in the restaurant and kitchen delivering meals for the restaurant.

You will participate in both internal and external hospitality events giving an invaluable insight of what it is like to work in the industry. All of our full-time students are encouraged to obtain part -time work in the hospitality industry to gain valuable experience and skills.

The College is an essential provider of a vast range of courses all focused on developing relevant skills for employment and to enhance current career prospects for those who are already working.
