Failure Modes and Effects Analysis is a step-by-step process for identifying all of the possible failings in a process, product, service or new design. The tool is used to help practitioners predict what might go wrong – and how bad the effect of that failure could be – so that plans can be put in place to prevent them from occurring or to detect them before incident.
Failure modes means all of the ways a process, product, service or new design could fail, while effects analysis considers the scale and consequences of those failures.
Finding faults or failures in a product, service or new design once it is completed and on its way to the customer is expensive, damaging and potentially dangerous. An FMEA helps practitioners to find likely causes of problems before they occur so it never gets to that stage.

About this course
Improved quality, reliability and safety
Increased customer satisfaction
Identifies critical to quality elements of a process, product or service
Documents risk reduction activities
Reduces development time and costs
Reduces warranty claims, returns and complaints
The power of an FMEA team is that it pulls together the knowledge of people across a range of functions. Relying on the knowledge of one person or a few people in the same role would not make it the robust tool it is.
That means FMEA training is relevant to everyone! However, it’s particularly useful if you are in an improvement or risk management role.

Course programme
FMEA is most noticeably used in industries where there is a serious risk associated with failure, such as aviation, the Armed Forces and space exploration. However, it is also common across the rest of industry where failures may not be so dangerous, but could be hugely expensive or very damaging to the company.
During this course, you will cover the following:
- Introduction
- What is FMEA?
- Using FMEA templates
- A Quick Look example
- FMEA Roadmap
- Exploring DFMEA and PFMEA
- Completing your own FMEA
Online training allows delegates to learn at their own pace, and this interactive course has games, quizzes and activities to ensure you are confident in how to effectively conduct and complete an FMEA.
