Foundation Course for Catering Staff
The Training Kitchen was born out of an ideal of better food for children. We want to enhance skills that are already being used within the school kitchen, and give catering staff ideas that they can take away with them which they can then implement within their school kitchen, on a limited budget. If you want to be ahead of the game, then this could be the course for you.
Day One
Morning
- Welcome to the Training Kitchen.
- The ethos of Ashlyns - how it began and the principles that underlie its mission.
- Health and Safety within the Training Kitchen.
- Hands-on practical cookery plus demonstrations, using as much fresh, local and organic produce as possible.
- Lunch.
Afternoon
- Demonstration
- Feedback and discussion on the morning's work and the demonstration.
- Presentation, Food for Life, the ‘whole school approach'.
Day Two
Morning
- A welcome to the second day.
- Hands-on practical cookery and demonstration.
- Lunch.
Afternoon

Both days will start at 9.30 am and finish at 3.30 pm.
You will need to bring with you: kitchen uniform or suitable clothing, sensible shoes and headwear and also protective gloves for washing up.
