Description of course:
This qualification is highly recognised by employers and by studying this course you will gain qualifications to become a professional chef in the hospitality and catering industry. The course covers all aspects of catering and you will learn how to cook professionally to a high standard, learn all the underpinning knowledge that is required to prepare, cook and present food. You will learn the aspects of hygiene and Health and Safety that are required to work in the hospitality and catering industry

Method of assessment:
The course is assessed throughout the year by written coursework assignments, set written examinations, practical assessments and 2 final practical exams at the end of the year.

Progression opportunities and careers:
Successful completion of the Level 1 Diploma will lead to progression onto the Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery or provide entry into employment.

Entry requirements:
To have completed secondary education to GCSE standard.

Additional qualifications studied:
As part of the course the Chartered Institute of Environment Health Level 2 Award in Food Safety is studied and forms part of the course. All full time students will undertake a combination of additional qualifications that will enhance their study skills and those skills that will be important in employment.
