Food Production and Cooking Intermediate Apprenticeship Units:
To successfully achieve the qualification you must complete all mandatory units and 30 credits from the optional units which are relevant to your current role and allow you to collect sufficient evidence.

Who is the course for?
The course is aimed at students aged 16 and over who wish to complete an Intermediate Apprenticeship and are involved in food production and cooking as their primary work. This qualification is designed for people working in small Hotels, Restaurants, Pubs, Café, Care Homes and outside catering venues. Who use some pre-prepared items on their menus to achieve their dishes. This course is adaptive in the use of the use of some frozen, dried and packet goods when in service. You should be working in a Kitchen environment and be in a position to prepare and cook various foods to obtain evidence through regular assessments.

This is a practical course where students are expected to provide evidence through workplace activities and guided assignment work. In addition to online exams will be required.

What are the Entry Requirements
Candidates should be working in a food production role, committed to study and be responsible for their own learning. Students must be employed in a suitable work placement providing food production and this will be assessed prior to enrolment. It is necessary to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team and hospitality assessor, complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy. You will be expected to have at least basic numeracy and literacy skills. You will also be required to work towards the achievement of the relevant level of functional skills if you do not have a GCSE’s in English and Maths, to support your ever growing knowledge.
Attendance
No college attendance is required; however one hour weekly online learning for the technical knowledge may be required. Attendance in work is closely monitored by the assessor and progress towards the qualifications and your employer will be informed of any non-activity. If functional skills are required you will be required to attend weekly until achieved the framework requirements.
Requirements in the workplace
- Students are required to be employed in a suitable work placement providing administrative tasks in a supervisory or senior role.
- Skilled and knowledgeable staff in placement
- Modern equipment and tools/machines to follow current practices in industry.

if you do not already have one.
