What will the course cover?

The course will cover basic understanding of modern cooking; learners will explore and discover a diversity of cooking methods and techniques to enable new learners to build up their confidence and knowledge in the Kitchen. We will help you understand the principal of cooking step by step. We will also help you develop your knife skills and the use of health and safety procedures.

What skills, knowledge or experience do I need to start this course?

No particular skills, experience or knowledge is required for this course. All you will need is your enthusiasm and wiliness to learn. Through the course you will be encouraged to learn new cooking tips which help you enhance your desire to enjoy cooking at home a bit more.

Learning Objectives

• Prepare cook and present three dishes.

• Demonstrate effective knife skills in two cutting techniques (as outlined above)

• Explain the points to be aware of when buying and storing fresh vegetables, meat and fish.

How is the course organised?

In each cooking section you will be able to prepare and cook two dishes: One main course dish, one dessert dish or one starter. As a lecturer I do think that learning by doing is very important for learners understanding of a particular dish, therefore I will demonstrate all the dishes, and then the learner’s will continue cooking them. At the beginning of the class you will be told what to bring for next class.

What extra study or practice is expected outside of the class?

It will be up to learners to practice whatever they have learned in class in order to build on their confidence and skills.

How will my progress be assessed?

Tutor observation, summative and formative assessment, and classroom discussion. Question and answer strategies will also be used in order to test learners cooking knowledge skills. One to one guidance and support will also be available.

What can I expect to go on to after this course?

Broaden up your cooking knowledge, experience and skills by joining another course within our curriculum, in order to develop you culinary skills.

Are there any other costs and what do I need to bring?

On the first week all cooking ingredients are fully provided by the curriculum manager. Then after that learners will provide their own ingredients for the remainder of the course. Learners are advised to provide their own apron, Every week students will be asked to bring a container to take their food they have produced home.
