Costs and equipment 16-18 year olds will not have to pay tuition fees, awarding body registration or exam fees. However they are required to pay for other third party costs, such as books, equipment and educational trips/visits. Students aged over 19 on the start date of their studies, have to pay tuition fees. In addition they are expected to pay awarding body registration and exam fees, other third party costs, such as books, equipment and educational trips/visits. Some students may be eligible for a fee concession, although in most cases some element of the fees will have to be paid. Course programme

You’ll gain a range of skills in catering, from the creation and presentation of dishes, to service in a restaurant. Learning from our experienced catering tutors, you’ll poach, steam, roast and bake your way towards a career as a chef.

This course has a combination of practical assessments which are carried out in our training kitchen, Le Cordon Vert training restaurant and work related assignments based on realistic scenarios, with tutor guidance from our experienced catering tutors who will help you to learn the skills essential to succeed in the Catering Industry.

During your time on this course you will go on several trips to different hospitality establishments to witness first hand what is to be expected form you and you will have guest speakers coming in speaking to you about their experiences in the professional sector and offering you advice on what awaits you at the end of your learning journey.

All our tutors have years of experience in various roles within catering before going into the teaching. It is the knowledge and skills which they gained during this time that they strive to pass onto their students in their classes.

With our on-site Eat Central Social Space and Le Cordon Vert Training Restaurant, you will have ample opportunity to apply the knowledge you gain in class into practical application.

Every learner at Central Sussex College who is under 19 will undertake a personal Study Programme designed to develop them academically, practically and personally. Study Programmes contain 3 essential elements:

  • Subject Course – Vocational or chosen Academic subject, usually studied for 12 – 16 hours a week.
  • English and Maths – Every learner will work towards Level 2 English and Maths (C grade equivalent). Learners who have achieved a Grade C will extend their English and Maths.
  • 3E – Our own brand of specific entrepreneurship, enterprise and employability training.

You will have specific time in your timetable for each of the three elements above and you will be expected to attend all elements throughout the year. Study programmes are designed to help you meet your maximum potential and progress to the next level of study of into work.
