The content of the Apprenticeship depends on which route you follow. Units for Professional Cookery could include:
Cook and finish basic poultry dishes;
Cook and finish basic shellfish dishes;
Or, if you followed a Food & Drink Service route, example units you could cover include:
Contribute towards effective teamwork;
Prepare and service cocktails.

There are short Functional Skills tests from which you may be exempt if you have the appropriate GCSEs. Progress reports will be given to your employer by your tutors.

About this course




Apprentices will attend one day a week at Highbury City of Portsmouth Centre to undertake taught practical sessions. Attendance at College sessions is essential. The rest of the time will be spent learning on the job with the employer.

An Apprenticeship is a national work-based training programme designed for each industry. It is a great way of earning and learning at the same time and provides a high degree of flexibility, depending on your interests and job role.
You will work towards a number of qualifications designed for you to achieve the skills required for your chosen career:

NVQ Level 2 Professional Cookery or Food & drink Service or Front Office Customer Service;
Functional Skills in Maths and English.
Other: Employer Rights and Responsibilities.
Apprentices will build a portfolio of work and have on-site visits to observe their ability and skills in their daily role. Your full commitment to the Apprenticeship is essential. It is important you take ownership for your own learning by seeking out opportunities to gain new skills on the job with your employer. Tutors are on hand to guide and support you with your training.
