Course content:
The course aims to encourage students to achieve within a supportive, educational environment. Subject areas include:-
The emphasis is on real life activities to develop and enhance your personal, social and independent living skills. You may learn these skills through subjects such as : Drama, Music, Art, Cookery, Sport, Personal Lifestyles, Community Studies, IT, English and Maths.

INDIVIDUAL LEARNING PLANS
Upon entry to the course, students are assessed and an individual learning plan is built around the students†educational, social and personal needs . This plan can be discussed with parents, carers and managers if necessary. The students enjoyment of the course and their achievement whilst at college are our main aim.

CARERS, PARENTS, MANAGERS
We welcome the involvement of carers, parents and managers during the time your son/daughter or client is a student at the college. We believe that working in partnership will facilitate the student†s enjoyment and progress.

CARE SUPPORT
The full-time Skills for Life course provides Full-time Care and Learning Support Staff who will work alongside the lecturers. Care Support staff are responsible for the students†comfort and personal requirements whilst at college. The students will be supported through their lunch and tea-breaks and escorted to/from transport as required.

Certificate in Life Skills

Progression opportunities:
After completing the three year full-time Skills for Life course, students will be able to study a range of subjects on the part-time provision. This could mean studying something new or moving on to study a subject at a higher level. The part-time courses are also accredited through EdExcel. Other full-time options may be available to students following discussion with the Course Co-ordinator.

Free study and financial support:
Most full-time students do not have to pay for their course. We may also be able to help you with some of the extra costs associated with college, eg travel, childcare, equipment, books etc. In addition, if you have just left school, you may be eligible for an Educational Maintenance Allowance.
