Introduction to the Internet

Level: Beginners

Course content:
This course gives an introduction to the Internet for those who have little or no experience of computers or the internet. Learn to surf the net, and shop and book tickets online.
By the end of the course you will be able to:-
  • Use a mouse and keyboard to perform basic Internet operations
  • Basic surfing the Internet
  • Find a website or webpage when you know its address
  • Use a search engine to find information on the Internet
  • Shop and book tickets online
  • Download files and pictures from the Internet
  • Compare Broadband packages
  • Protect your computer from common Internet threats


Course Structure:
You will have the use of your own computer to practice and learn online. The tutor will show you what to do, with demonstrations you can see on a screen. You will then try it for yourself with help from the tutor and each other. You will also get written instructions, handouts and exercises to do.

Course resources:
All students have access to our fully equipped state of the art learning centre. This includes free internet access.

Assessment:
Self assessment, observation of tasks by tutor, checking of task printouts, question and answer

When information is available you will notice 2 different fees stated for this course. The fee you pay is dependent on your status:
Fee 1: Standard fee;
Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
You DO NOT have to pay a college registration fee for these courses, but you may have to pay for additional course materials.Materials costs:
