Level: Beginners

Course content:
You will a learn a variety of professional techniques, such as traditional pearl knotting, to enable you to restring and restyle any broken bead or pearl necklaces, or to create new ones.
At the end of this course you will be able to…
- Source and select threading materials, beads and tools
- Use materials safely to achieve a professional finish
- Attach jewellery findings and fittings, i.e. clasps, crimps and calottes etc.
- Turn loops and attach head and eye pins
- Do traditional double thread pearl knotting
. Identify some of the principles of design and colour theory.

Course Structure:
Following a 5 week plan, each week the teacher will demonstrate the relevant techniques, and students will practise those techniques by working either samples, or restringing a brought item.

Course resources:
Each student will receive a Restringing Resource booklet compiled by the teacher , and you will have access to the Learning Centre at Tooting which has a good selection of beading books and magazines. Specialist tools will be loaned by the teacher.

Assessment:
Individual progress record. Teacher feedbac. Student and peer self-assessment.

Fees Info
When information is available you will notice 2 different fees stated for this course. The fee you pay is dependent on your status:
Fee 1: Standard fee;
Fee 2: Aged 60+ years fee
Students in receipt of an income-based benefit pay £20 per course per term.
You will need to bring proof of age and any benefits when you enrol.
You DO NOT have to pay a college registration fee for these courses, but you may have to pay for additional course materials.Materials costs:
You will need to purchase basic restringing materials, approx cost £4. As a student you will be eligible for a 10% discount with Wimbledon Sewing Machine Company in Tooting Bec.
